It’s a Beautiful Ride

Last Thursday was a pretty big day for us. It was a surreal, nerve racking, is this really our life kind of day and in all honesty I’m still in a digestive state about it. Last Thursday we went to the doctor’s and heard a noise that pretty much changed things for us in an indescribable and forever kind of way. I can still hear it in my head actually, every time I close my eyes, I can still hear the noise just reverberating through my head. We heard a little baby’s heartbeat. A little baby that’s growing in my belly.

Even as I write this, it’s difficult to really take in the reality of the mack truck that’s currently hitting us. I can’t believe there’s a human growing inside me (isn’t that crazy), I can’t believe we’re going to be parents.

It all happened pretty fast, within a few weeks of starting this whole – let’s try to have a baby thing, low and behold we had a baby. Well almost. Baby’s on the way, hanging with the stork these days. The appointment, too – so routine and normal for the nurses. Heartbeat, check! Baby, check! All systems go, here’s your paperwork – do you have any questions. Yes, yes I do, but my brain can’t really formulate those questions right now, so I’m just going to smile and nod at everything you say.

So, we’re taking it in and doing what we can to get basecamp ready for another human. We’re excited, nervous, overjoyed, humbled, in awe, tired already, uncertain, ready, completely not ready, but totally in love with the concept of being a steward for another soul in this beautiful and fleeting life we have the privilege of walking through. What a gift – what a beautiful, wonderful gift. I’m so thankful for it!

One thing’s for sure – hearing that noise. Listening to that heartbeat, hearing that amazing sound, I was sure of one thing. That’s my baby, and I’m your mama. I can’t believe your inside of there (of me!), we really can’t wait to meet you!

Keep that heart beating, baby Sell! We’ll see you in April!!

And now for a few photo outtakes with our first baby!

  1. Congratulations!!!!! The ultrasound/tabby photos cracked me up – kitty’s life will never be the same, either! Looking forward to seeing nursery designs 🙂

  2. Congratulations Mary, that’s wonderful!! Pregnancy and parenthood is quite the wild ride, and I know you’ll rock it out. How are you feeling?

  3. Congratulations!!! Of all the blogs I read regularly, this announcement was most surprising (and happy, of course!)

After your money post last week, I wonder how things will be rebalanced in your life. My hubby and I always talk about the money aspect of raising a child (one of the main reasons we don’t want to try…yet) and would love some perspective from such frugal people as yourselves!

Will you have to stick to more low key home improvements now?

Best of luck, I hope it all goes wonderfully 🙂

    1. Oh, I’m sure things will rebalance a bit! We’ll definitely have daycare costs, so that’s a big factor that wasn’t there before! We have an excel spreadsheet (nerddom) where I play around with the numbers, so we were able to pop in daycare costs, etc, and see how it would impact our monthly take home. I found that super helpful to get myself mentally ready with the $$ side of things. 🙂

We’ll stick to less expensive home renos for a while for sure! 🙂 After all that spending, I’m ready for a break anyway! 😉

  4. CONGRATS!! We also just found out we’re expecting too! I’m due in May but haven’t had an US yet, very exciting yet surreal that it is actually happening. I think once we hear the heart beat it will sink in 🙂

  5. Congratulations!! So excited for you and your growing family!! Can’t wait to see all the nursery inspiration!!!…and oh yeah!…to fawn over that adorable little baby coming soon!

  6. Hi, I was soo excited to read your wonderful news today!!What a baby! As far as the expense of having a baby I think people buy too much stuff anyway! We started our family of 5 children almost 50 yrs. ago and we didn”t have half of what couples have to day and our children turned out GREAT! What the baby will really need is Lots of LOVE and guess what that is Free!! Congrats to you and Jaybird; you will make super parents I”m sure!!! P.S. can”t you work from home??? Sandee from Fairfax Va.

  7. How crazy exciting!!! I can’t express how happy I am for you two 🙂 Can’t wait to see some beautiful nursery pics in the near future 😉

  8. Such wonderful news! This has quickly become my favorite blog in the last 6 months or so since I discovered you. I’m excited to follow along with this new journey!
p.s. we have an orange female tabby named Sadie and a grey female tabby named Lulu. You can bet they will be featured heavily if/when we have a pregnancy announcement. We love our fur-babies! I’m curious to see how your kitty does with adjusting to the baby when the time comes 🙂
