Chandy Candy

Seriously, is there anything more chic than a chandelier? I mean, a pulling out all the stops, stop in your tracks and look at me chandelier.

Even though I know little Henry is most definitely a boy, I’m totally playing the “I’m the Mom” card and beautifying his nursery with some feminine touches 😀 I mean, it’s the age of the gender neutral baby, right? Sorry kid, no tonka truck borders in this room 😉

Which leads me to a chandelier I’ve been obsessing over. OBSESSING. This beauty is way the heck out of my price range, but my love for it goes to the bottom of the ocean and back. Doesn’t it just remind you of a fancy pantsy pair of chic earrings?

Favorite Chandelier

Chandelier // Earrings

I mean, of course, of course this chandelier is over $1,100. So, long story short, if I want it, or anything like it, to grace the halls of chateau de Sell anytime soon – it will have to be a DIY effort. Bummer dude.

But you better bet my wheels are already turning on how to get a look for less version rocking in this joint. Think this ceiling mount, and a craigslist chandelier spray painted go to along?

In the mean time, here are a few of my favorite chandy finds while on the hunt to light up our life a little more in the room of our little tot.

Best Brass Chandeliers

Eastview // Reina // Sofia // Elk Lighting // Ramona // Feiss

During my hunt for the perfect chandelier, I found a pretty stellar look for less, as well. I know I can’t be the only one obsessed with the Thomas O’Brien chandelier from Visual Comfort, right? Well check out this nearly identical one I found for $199!

Look for Less

Swedish Obsession

When we lived in Michigan, we were 15 minutes away from an IKEA. The things we take for granted mi amigos, the things we take for granted. See – now the closest IKEA is 2+ hours away. Did I still convince Jay that it was a good idea for us to cart our booties there last weekend? Why yes! Yes I did 😀

I had a specific checklist of baby room items I wanted and there was an added bonus. It was the spend more money than you should, and EAT FOR FREE day at IKEA! Never heard of it? Well those tricky little Swedish marketers came up with the idea that if they could persuade you to spend $100 or more on home furnishings, that you could eat all the swedish food your heart desired. To a knocked up women and a man that puts over a hundred miles a week on the open road burning calories on his bicycle – this sounded like a splendid way to spend a Saturday.

And so … off we went … on our Saturday adventure, where this happened.

Eat for Free at IKEA day

Yep, that’s food for just the two of us, well the three of us, if you’re getting technical. I think Jay likes to pretend he’s growing a baby too, since his spread out paced mine by a few sides.

I’ve gotta say, between the food (oh, the food!) and the splendid array of wonderment that lay before my eyes, this was one fun IKEA trip.

Best IKEA Furniture

My favorite item – BY FAR – was this little sofa that was just way too chic for it’s own good. And by it’s own good, I mean mine, because I’ve obviously got to make it mine.

IKEA Stocksund Sofa

As much as I lovey dove IKEA, I’m not usually a furniture shopper there, since the swedish lines are a bit more modern than I typically jam with. I’ve got a house chock full of their baskets and picture frames, but this sofa man, that really stopped my heart a beating for a quick second.

It’s even got a matching ottoman, to boot! Want, neeeed, must haveee ittt allll.

IKEA Stocksund Ottoman

They’ve actually got an entire collection (of armchair and sofas) so you better bet I’m saving my simolians to buy one of those beauties down the line.

Here are some of my favorite new picks I spotted on our most recent trip. I can’t wait to show you what we picked out for the nursery! (we’ve even got a paint color up in there!)

Best Things From IKEA

Stocksund Sofa // Dorthy Pillow // Pjas Basket // Himalayamix Plants // Graslok Planter // Stocksund Ottoman // Ryssby Table // Magga Basket // Ribba Picture Frame

Deal of the Day

I get tons of emails from readers on the roman shades we purchased for our Living Room and Bedroom, and I wanted to let y’all know that they’re on super sale today if you’re looking to stock up for your own abode!

Ending today – you can use code 4FAMILY to get an extra 25% off (woot!!). Every so often JCPenney runs this special, and I’ve been holding off on purchasing matching shades for our Dining Room and Kitchen until I could snag a deal again.

Dover Cordless Roman // Bamboo Woven Roman // Custom Textured Roman Shade // Burnout Bamboo Cordless

This deal is only good through the end of the day (10/27) so be sure to stock up while the getting is good! 😀

Chairish is a Word I Use to Describe

Y’all know I’m obsessed with thrifted duds, and one of my favorite online stops for vintage chic furniture is Chairish (especially for non-local clients that are looking for quality pieces with much lower prices). If you’re not familiar with Chairish – be prepared for an addiction to set in, in three …. two …. one.

Here are some of my favorite vintage finds on the site right now.

Antique_Trunk

This trunk would be awesome extra storage in a nursery.

Ginger Jar Lamp

Perfect for an office, or extra lamp in your living room.

Mitchell_Gold_Club_Chair

In love with the lines on this Mitchell Gold Claire chair.

Vintage Bamboo Rocking Chair

This rocking chair reminds me of the furniture my Aunt and Uncle have from the Philippines. It’s gorgeous!

One of my favorite things about designing spaces for clients is stepping outside my normal style zone to embrace something outside of my typical palette. I mean, as lovely as a linen skirted parsons chair is, it’s well, sorta quiet and understated. Here is one of my favorite modern chic office looks, which all centers around an incredibly rad emerald green high back chair from Chairish that I think would look pretty amazing as a place to park your booty. You can browse all the accent chair they have on their site, here.

Modern Chic Office

Gold Chandelier // Emerald Zebra Print // Libby Side Table // Emerald Chair // Juniper Rug // Mirror // Fiddle Leaf Fig // Lamp // Desk // Bicycle Print // Be Kind Print // Whitney English Day Planner

So what do y’all think? Green with envy over that chair or what! Emerald just might be my new color 😀

Nursery Look Book

Oh babies. The things they do to their mommas from day one. My little nugget just happens to be giving me a run for my money right now – first trimester is no joke, y’all! I’m nearly 10-weeks now and my fingers are crossed that things get a bit easier once I pass over the 12-week mark because truth be told, I’m sorta tired of feeling like poop all the time. 😀

So instead of dwelling on my current state of human-making, I’ve decided to jump ahead a bit and start throwing out some nursery ideas into the blogland gauntlet. Because, quite frankly, that’s more fun than dwelling on my current (blah) condition.

Which leads to my styling conundrum – dark and cozy, or bright and light?

Because as much as I love nurseries like these:

Neutral Nursery

White Nursery

Source | Nicole Davis

I’m equally attracted (maybe more so?) to spaces like these:

Dark Navy Nursery

Source | LaSueure Interiors

Dark Nursery

Source | Erin Williamson

Charcoal Nursery

Source | Elements of Style

Now, confession. I made an impulse pregnant lady purchase and thought I’d just pick a color from a stack (again) and have it look lovely.

I thought it would be a nice olive green but it turned out looking like baby doo, which in the end, could actually work quite well. He he. Alas as functional as that could be, I’m not sure I’m willing to go that far to baby proof the abode. 😉

It’s almost enough to scare me back into the white and neutrals crowd. What say you? White nursery or dark and cozy?

Help an indecisive pregnant woman decide!

Arranging Our Life

Now, even though we’ve officially been living in the fine state of North Carolina for 3+ months now, in all honesty, in our tiny little one bedroom apartment, we really weren’t able to unpack much at all. From silverware to underwear, you name it, we most likely have been living without it or with a greatly reduced supply of it. Like rotating 4 pairs of underwear short supply. mmmyeah. Let’s just say I was missing my undies.

Since our apartment pretty much prohibited any type of furniture arrangement, I’ve been having lots of fun as we unpack trying all sorts of new configurations in our living spaces. It definitely takes a while to get things just right, but I’m enjoying experimenting over here with new layouts. In the name of having at least one room that was not full of boxes, I decided to start in on the Living Room first.

Living Room Furniture Arrangement

So nice. So cozy! Almost makes me wish for a cold winter night and a roaring fire. Almost. 😉

Now, truth be told, I’ve got a few instant mental objections to my first shot at living room arranging. In my mind, the photo has a bit too much tufting action happening – plus, it really bugs me that the ottoman and chairs are almost matching (tufting) but different colors. It just looks a little off in my noggin.

Here is a shot from the side, so you can see how it flows from this angle.

Living Room Layout Around Fireplace

Again, one of my favorite things is the cozy factor from this view. It just feels like a perfect little conversation area, and not like a walk-through room.

There’s a lot of space behind the couch right now, and that wall definitely needs a buffet of some sort, and some artwork up above.

Couch Location in Living Room

One of the first things that became obvious was that our 9×12 rug was just not going to cut it any longer in our new and larger living room. Secretly, this makes me happy, since buying rugs is my elixir in life. 😀 Jay thinks the 4 foot gap is hunky doorey, so I’ll have to work on my powers of persuasion on this one. (wish me luck…)

Right now, I have each of the Pottery Barn chairs nestled along the fireplace. For me, it’s also helpful that the chairs cover up the awkward gap you get with the rug and the wood floor as a result of the fireplace bump out. My dream for this room would be to get a custom natural fiber rug that wraps around the fireplace, but that is anything but cheap, so I’m just going to have to sit tight and camouflage with furniture a bit longer.

Tufted Living Room Chair

It made me so happy to rescue my first thrift find ever, and still one of my favorites, from the doom and gloom of our basement.

Carved Wood Mirror

Although this mirror has been placed above dressers in the past, we took a cue from our last house and popped that bad boy up above the fireplace and I’m totally loving it.

Here is a close up shot of the carved wood details on this mirror.

Carved Wood Antique Mirror

The last part of the room to get decorated was our front facing wall. It’s definitely not finished – but I’m going to put it in the “good enough for now” category. I feel like the table is too small for the lamps, so I might need to upgrade for something larger under this window. Long term, I’d love to add some custom built-ins over this entire wall. A girl can dream, right?

Bamboo Living Room Chair

Along with my craigslist chairs, I found some small Restoration Hardware style lamps at HomeGoods the other night. I love the lines, and at $25 a piece, the price was right, too.

Restoration Hardware Style Lamp

Moving cross country, there sadly were some casualties in the furniture department. In all honesty, more than I’d care to mention (sad face). One of the smaller little blemishes was this scratch that the front of our couch is now sporting. It’s a chenille sofa, so overall the scratch blends in pretty easily, but still it’s a bummer to have the furniture get nicked up for sure.

Damaged Furniture From Moving

Overall, we’re all settling in nicely though. Malcolm especially, is loving his new home! He’s not camera shy, that’s fo shizzle.

Lemon Grove Interiors | New Service!

One of my favorite things about blogging over the past year or so, has been all the unexpected connections I’ve made with people and ideas that have come up as a result. It’s so fun virtually get to know people, and to have y’all offer input and insights into the design process for our home. A metaphor for life, I guess, it’s better with friends along by your side :)

When I started offering boards a few months back, I literally had no idea how much interest there would be in affordable interior design services. I have had a blast working with each and every one of my clients, and I’m super excited to say that I’m starting to offer a few additional services, based on feedback from all of you!

First, inspired by our own kitchen renovation, I’ve decided to start offering kitchen design services.

Kitchen Design Services

I recently had a client approach me about helping her select some details for her kitchen renovation and for $25, I created the board above for her. Now she has finalized choices for her counter, flooring, cabinets, fixtures and back splash. Along with a paint recommendation and some art, too! :)

Since we’ve always purchased older homes, and have never built new, I also never thought to create builder packages for those looking to source all the little details that go into a finished home. So when Marie approached me about sourcing the lighting for her new home, I did a cartwheel, high fived my cat, and then said – OF COURSE! That sounds like so. much. fun!

So, working within her budget, I sourced all the lights she needed to give to her builder for her new construction home. Devil’s in the details, right?

Lemon Grove Interiors

I told her that putting these boards together made me want to update all the lighting in our house, too!

Of course, in addition these fun, new services, I’m still offering my “normal” room design services. Here are a few rooms I’ve been working on in the past few weeks.

Like this entry way.

And this cozy and eclectic TV room.

Or for clients that already have the furniture and are just looking to accessorize, I’ve put together a package for that too. This client just wanted artwork and other details sourced to compliment her existing furniture.

Here is a more traditional take on a Dining space – I love the way this formal Dining Room came out!

Dining Room Mood Board If you’re interested in getting design services for your home, I’d love to help you! Packages start as low as $25 per room, with multiple room discounts for 2 or more rooms :)
