A Banjo, Some Tacos and a Margarita

Jay and I, we are really bad at the date night concept. Like I can count official date nights on one hand, and we’ve been together like two hands. So we are pretty pitiful when it comes to the official date night. That’s not to say we don’t go out with our buddies and all that jazz, but the whole, let’s do something that WE want to do, with just the TWO of us. It’s as rare as …. no good analogy here … it’s just rare.

So when we were listening to some music downstairs a few weeks back, from a band we had never really listened too, but loved the minute we heard them – and I saw they were coming to play in OUR town a few weeks later – I did something crazy spontaneous and went and bought two tickets for us to go! Ca-razy town!! And I gotta tell you, I’m so, so glad I did.

We went to see the Avett Brothers at Hill Auditorium here in Ann Arbor. Started our night out with some $3 Margarita’s and $1 tacos! Yeah babby!!! Biiiiggg spenders here! We even got free chips! 😉 Needless to say, I think we started the night out right. Love Sabor Latino’s Taco Tuesday. So delicious and did I mention the tacos are $1?? Arrribbbaa!

We decided to even get dessert. We ordered fried ice cream, and I gotta tell ya, it sounded better on paper. It was like a chunk of vanilla ice cream coated in fried corn flakes! he he 🙂 I was hoping for some fried coconuts a la’ Outback steakhouse, no dice. Can’t win em all.

After finishing up at Sabor Latino, we walked on over to Hill Auditorium where the concert was being held. Here we are, freezing our tuckus off in line. We thought the concert started at 8:30, but the doors actually opened at 8:30. Did I mention we don’t get out much?

There was so much energy in the auditorium by the time we got there. We were up in the Mezzanine, so our view of the stage was a bit limited, but once the concert got started everyone got up on their feet – so I wasn’t the only one with a hard time seeing after that. Even though the seats were on an incline, it really wasn’t enough to compensate for the taller people up front. I think next time, I would try to get a seat in the front of the Mezzanine, cause then you still get the less expensive tickets, but you have a pretty darn good view of the stage as well. Lesson learned.

Plus, at the end of the night on our walk home – I found these cool doors just chilling in a free pile in our neighbors yard. Not sure what I’m going to do with them, but I think they are tres chic 😉 They smell kinda funny after being left outside, so not sure if we are going to land up keeping them (if we can’t get rid of the smell), but they gave me some serious inspiration for some storage in the basement. Perhaps we will tackle that sometime this spring.

Seriously though, check out the Avett Brothers! They are a bluegrass/folk band and I pretty much adore them.
